Genius

I met my first Genius whilst studying Psycholgy at UEL I was living at  the Clays Lane housing cooperative at Temple Mills which is now the site of the Olympic Village .

I guess nowadays people hold call him a roadman in those day he was a bad boy / UK G. I was warned by friends he was trouble and tea leaf, but to me he was friend who they didn't understand so I ignored them.

We shared a love of music , kung fu and both of us dreamt big , We shared stories of a our experiences at Spiral Tribe parties and ended up being flatmates alongside Snooze and Jonny Jedi

In the end he ripped me off and we went our  separate paths but even that synchronously coincided with me moving to the Yellow Dragon Centre , it seemed like fate.

The Scientists of Sound

Back in the 90's when I had just finished University and was transitioning from the student life to working life. I went through a brief period where I signed on for benefits . I was still living at the now infamous Clays Lane housing cooperative at Temple Mills which later became the site of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and the Olympic village. The houses at Clays Lane were built around "courtyards"  and the Courts,  of which there were about 12,  had a mixture of 10 person, 4 person houses and 1 bed flats . For a period I lived in a 10 person house in Howarth Court with Jonny Jedi/Fused , Kris Genius ,  Wayne Snooze and Super Mandy  .

In those days (pre mobiles) each 10 person house had a communal pay phone at the bottom of the stairwell . I remember one morning coming home after a particulary heady night out raving , taking a phone call for Wayne from someone who mysteriously described himself as "Stevie B from the Scientists of Sound"

Fast forward a few years and I was now living at The Yellow Dragon Centre / Temple, when I got my first permanent job at the Flagship offices of the Sitel Corporation in Old Street.  Sitel was running call centres for share demutualisations and the new mobile phone companies.Who should be amongst my colleagues along side;  Michael "The Dark Dragon"  , Simon "Abrante" B  , Lennie de  Ice , Trevor Fung  and  Sara Cox  none other than Stevie B from the Scientists of Sound.

Stevie was a very charismatic character and the Scientists of Sound were a British Hip Hop group from London  (not to be confused with the Beastie Boys) who released "The blow up factor e.p." as Scientists of Sound ) Their lyrics were on a concious tip with definate influence from the Holy Tabernacle Ministries a number of whose members seemed to be working at Sitel.

I had already become aware of HTM due to the distinctive symbols painted on the outside of its  a bookshop in Hackney , Stevie B described HTM  as a group that studies the common threads in the worlds major religions. it seemed a little bit cultish to me  but I could live with that.

The Scientists of Sound played an amazing live set at the Sitel Christmas party , which I think  Simon B /Abrante and his then crew  "90%"  also played at.
