My wife recently bought me a Grey "Ben Sherman" sweatshirt with the mod logo on. I don't think she knows the history of the logo, she just knew I like the Ben Sherman label.

The mod subculture had run its course by the time I hit my teens but I knew a few guys with parka's , who liked The Jam and The Who. It was many years later first I watched "Quadraphenia". Probably around the time the Brighton based label "skint" released a free "big beat" mixtape entitled "mockers"

My parents discouraged my brothers and I from getting motorbikes when we were 16.  This was in part because my mum apparently had a vespa in her youth and fell off it.

Around the turn of the millennium a friend "Kung Fu Jo" who used to come down to the Yellow Dragon Centre / Temple introduced me to two friends of hers Joe and Jed from the an underground techno crew ."Chiba City Sound"

I met had Joe before at Clays Lane when he was involved with the Asian soundsystem "Joi" However he and Jed were now both wearing black, riding vespa's and representing the "Faceless 23 scooter club."

Sifu Simon Wong

Dear  Brothers/ Sisters

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of our beloved Sifu (Master) Simon Wong * founder of the Yellow Dragon Fist Kung Fu.  He left us today, and his departure leaves a profound void in our hearts. May his spirit rest in peace and may his legacy of martial wisdom, compassion, and strength continue to inspire us all. Our deepest condolences go out to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.

Master Wong’s funeral will be held on Friday October 17, from 3-4pm. Arrive by 2.50pm. All are welcome.

Kamikaze

 When I was younger I spent a few consecutive summers living and working in Cornwall, in my grandparents hometown of Hayle . This was the era The Aphex Twin and Tom "The Jedi" Middleton did their early parties out on the back road to St Ives. I had learnt to surf at Porthmeor and Gwithian and eventually became friends with a local shaper named "Mutley" who had his workshop on a farm neighbouring my Aunties bungalow & owned by the family that started "Tempest" Photography. 

I bought one of Mutley's Kamikaze boards which I still have. A few years ago I acquired a second, I kind of think of them as brothers.
