On pondering "The Shaolin" I realised they were introduced to me in the seventies TV series "Kung Fu" where David Carradine played the wandering shaolin monk "Caine". Many years later he played the role of the Samurai trained "Bill" in Kill Bill. A few years later he died in an accident from auto erotic asphyxiation !
I associate The Shaolin not only with the spiritual/ warrior path of the Buddhist Shaolin Monks, who legend has it created kung fu to defend the temple from the Wu Tang, but also used Buddhist/Taoist energetic practices to transforma sexual energy for the purpose of achieving enlightenment rather than pleasure/procreation.
In 90's Hip Hop acts like "Wu Tang Clan" popularised use of samples from classic kung fu films in hip hop. The group making many reference to legends of the Shaolin and Wu Tang
Over the pond the British breakbeat producer JSaulKane/Depth Charge used kung fu samples alongside porn samples in a similar way.
In London in the late nineties/early naughties I attended the hip hop clubs "Scratch" , and "Kung Fu" and the Shaolin film club at 333 where my friend "Shaolin" Alex was the DJ and my Kung Fu teacher did a demo. All Three club nights worked these themes.

Until now I have never commented on the Insane Clown Posse , I knew they were from Detroit and contemporaries of Eminem but until today hadn't been aware of the Kid Rock connection also a contemporary and also a white rapper.
Kid Rock started out as a B Boy as well as a DJ and M.C. Breaking Dancing reminds me of the lesser known Hip Hop dances of Clowning & Krumping.
All three (I.C.P. , EMINEM and Kid Rock) have built their careers on the foundations of Black Music. At times they may have struggled with elements of their white fan base that haven't always shared their anti racist values.This reminds of the infiltration of racist skinheads in two tone ska scene in the UK in the eighties.
Indeed "The Juggalos" known for their party lifestyle have even been unfairly compared to supporters of Donald Trump who have shown far less committment to inclusive values.
In my mind this is because Trump clearly crossed the line and allied himself with the Evil of the Joker rather than the flawed but ultimately just cause of the Dark Knight.
After only about 3 previous attempts of doing a Tibetan Buddhist visualisation before going to sleep, on Wednesday I was able to induce the dream yoga practise and recreate the same visualisation in my sleep.
It involved visualising the sanskrit syllables "om", "ah" "hum" at the crown , throat and heart chakras respectively and projecting white red and blue lights into the void.It also involved visualising a sanskrit "ah" syllable out in the void and reflecting the red light back to form a protective parasol canopy. After what felt like quite a long time of doing this I dreamt I showed the practise to my eldest son and his two friends and they were also able to do it.
On waking I recorded the dream in my diary. Within about an hour of me recording the dream, my eldest son woke then came into our bedroom to say good morning and tell us his dream. "I was sitting a dark room and was repeating a phrase 'om ah lemi hum' or something like that and after a while I turned it into a song which is stuck in my head"
