Back in the early 90's I began to experience lots of sychronicity around the no 23 I knew I was not alone having been introduced by the KLF to the "The Illuminatus" trilogy by Robert Anton Wilson a few years earlier. But when Spiral Tribe triggered my awakening to the phenomena I didn't know anyone else personally who had shared the experience of synchronicity or its relationship to the number 23. I was loathe to discuss it too much, fearing for my own sanity. Eventually after confiding in a friend who had also read "The Illumnatus" and who introduced me to some people from Topy/Topi. who grounded me and introduced me to various esoteric spiritual traditions, magical ideas , kung fu etc I emmerged from chapel perilous.
Around this time I had a particularly memorable experience with my girlfriend. I had been reading about ritual sex magick. She had been reading about "the coital alignment technique" and one evening she asked to try it out. We experienced what I can only describe as telepathy ! At the height of the passion we simultaneously looked at the clock it was 23:00. Then my girlfriend looked at the Spiral Tribe poster on the wall and exclaimed "it's a 23!" I had only earlier that day told her about the 23 Enigma and it was the 23rd of the month.
There are lots of explanations of the 23 enigma, one of which references the 23 pairs of chromosomes that unite to form new human life when activated by the life force in love making.
One of the rarest I've heard is its relationship to an African deity (whose name I don't know) that represents the strength and positivity than can arise from war and conflict. Perhaps this is similar to the concept of "breaking apart" in the I ching where postivitivity comes through removing the old that no longer serves.
Sprial Tribe were in my mind, a movement with an ethos of breaking down old ways and old conditoning , In pursuit of freedom. and finding new ways to re-connect with nature, and forward the revolution...
