A number of years ago my Kung Fu/Tai Chi /Buddhist Master introduced me to the breath counting method of meditation. He would also occasionally talk about the concept of Chi. I was originally attracted to his class by the phrase "Learn to focus your mind, body and spirit as one force." On a poster advertising his class.
A few years later whilst practising Capoeira and learning Portuguese,I became aware of the Portuguese word for breath. to breath = respira.
Perhaps for those who speak Latin based languages the connection between "Respira" to the word "Espritu" / "Spirit" is so obvious it may not even be conscious. who knows?

But it was neither conscious or obvious to me.
In Latin based languages the Holy Spirit = Espiritu Santo
I knew that in Judaism (and some other religions) there is a tradition of not speaking the sacred word for God . I knew that in Hebrew this is "Yahweh" abbreviated YHWH without the vowels (The Tetragramaton) but I only recently learnt that pronounced in this form it is equivalent to the sound of ones own breath / spirit
